The Shelter can and does use a great deal of supplies that are donated from members of the community and by various organizations and businesses. It is truly those donations that allow us to assist those in need in the community.
Also please remember that cash donations are placed into the general fund to pay the shelter's ongoing bills unless prior arrangements are made to earmark funds for a special project.

This list is an overview of items with an ongoing need.
If you have questions about specific items please feel free to call us.

Please, no outdated or nearly expired items.

  • Household Items for Shelter and Transitional Housing Use
    Ongoing Need:
    • Bed linens, blankets, pillow cases, pillows.
    • Towels and wash cloths.
    • Laundry detergent, fabric softener, drier sheets.
    • Garbage bags of several sizes.
    • Disinfectants, kitchen and bathroom cleaning supplies.
    • First aid supplies.

    Occasional Need Items please call before delivery:

    • Mops, brooms, dustpans, dusting cloths.
    • Landscaping tools.
    • Office supplies
    • Pots and pans, cooking utensils.
    • Bath mats, rugs.
    • Curtains.
    • Plates, bowls, cups, dishes, silverware, etc.

  • Food
    • Bulk food items to feed 25-30 people at a meal.
    • Non-perishable goods, canned and dried goods.
    • Lunchmeats, cheese, and similar foods.
    • Cereals, breakfast bars.
    • Diabetic foods.
    • Coffee grounds, filters, supplies.
    • Baby food, formula, supplies.
    • Nutritional drinks (Ensure).
    • Snacks.
    • Cooking oil, condiments, spices.
    • Dairy items, fresh meats and vegetables, breads, and etc. Please call before delivery

  • Bathroom Supplies
    (new items only please) items supplied to clients as needed
    • Toothbrushes, disposable razors, fingernail clippers, etc.
    • Shampoo, body wash, lotion, toothpaste, deodorants, etc.
    • Feminine hygiene items.
    • Denture care supplies.

  • Baby Supplies (new or easily cleanable items only please)
    • Diapers, training pants of all sizes.
    • Clothing.
    • Carriers, seats.
    • Carseats (new only due to safety concerns)
    • Travel cribs and playpens (new only due to safety concerns)

  • Seasonal
    • Winter coats and gloves, especially children's sizes.
    • School supplies, backpacks, notebooks, etc.
    • Children's play yard items.
    • Bicycles, child and adult.
The Shepherd Place provides relief to families and individuals who are in distress or dire economic situations without regard to age, race, creed, national origin or sexual orientation. The Shepherd Place is intended to provide short term emergency shelter and will work to reduce the degree of homelessness in Kent County, Delaware.
